The company has been the F1 tyre supplier since Bridgestone opted to exit the sport in 2010, offering teams the use of five slick compounds ranging from softer to harder rubber, in addition to intermediate and wet tyres for light and heavy standing water respectively.

Pirelli has a long history in motorsport having first been involved with F1 in 1950 before leaving in 1958, returning for brief periods in the 1980s and early 1990s.

In addition to Formula 1, the Italian manufacturer also supplies racing tyres to series as varied as the WRC, World Superbike Championship and GT World Challenge Europe and America, as well as providing sponsorship and support to Ken Block’s Hoonigan Racing division.

Pirelli was founded in Milan, Italy in 1847 and went public on the city’s stock exchange in 1922. The firm’s current largest shareholder is Chinese industrial chemicals giant ChemChina.
